How is it that they are so close to lightning, but do not get struck ? Is there any trick or are they simply risking their lives ? I often think about this: [![enter image description here][2]][2] On the picture, there are three possible situations (in fact it could hit tripod or ground too, but lets look at this situation). There is a building on top of a hill and it has the highest probability of being struck by a lightning bolt (I drew there radius around each object, because my intuition says that it could be so in real) Let´s say that we could cover ourselves from being struck by staying RELATIVELY close to some high objects, so that they would cover the sky around us with their large radius. As I try to illustrate, the lightning bolt would always hit the object closest to its path, right ? I do not think that this is safe to stay close to the high building, because.. everyone says "during lightning storm you shoudl never stand under the trees". But is there a chance to avoid being hit like this ? Could we discuss this please ? I would like to stay in safe, but take some beautiful photos of lightning too. What is the best way to stay safe while photographing lightning storms ? [1]: https://i.stack.imgur.com/Koac9.jpg [2]: https://i.stack.imgur.com/Six36.png
